Congress on Thursday said the report of Justice JS Verma committee
confirmed that women in Chhattisgarh were unsafe.
“The three-member panel, headed by Justice Verma, has
given inputs to Centre to strengthen rape laws. In this report, the committee expresses
its concern over rising women abuse cases and human trafficking in
Chhattisgarh. The report says women are not safe in Chhattisgarh. The state
government should be ashamed of this report,” said PCC president Nandkumar
Patel and CLP leader Ravindra Choubey.
“On law and order, the panel feels that Chhattisgarh
is as disturbed and insecure as Jammu & Kashmir and Manipur. The state government
should take this report seriously in the backdrop of rising crime,” he said.
Indicating that the report suggested for constitution
of special commission in Chhattisgarh to check molestation and rape cases, the
duo asked the government should take prompt action in favour of womenfolk.
The duo further demanded constitution of fast track
courts (FTCs) to rapidly deal rape cases.
