Jairam’s kudos to CG govt not a big issue: Sahay

Raipur, February 06, 2013

Former union minister and MP Subodh Kant Sahay on Wednesday said the union rural development minister Jairam Ramesh did nothing objectionable by praising Chhattisgarh government and it is mere wastage of time in taking out too much inference from his remarks.

“Ramesh appreciated Chhattisgarh government’s works while he was speaking on overall performance of different states. So, it is not a big issue to be discussed for long,” said Sahay while he was interacting with media persons at Mana airport when he reached Raipur to participate in NSUI’s nari asmita bachao padyatra.

Sahay used defensive tone for Ramesh unlike his fellow party leader Renuka Chowdary who in her recent Raipur visit had acerbically said that minister trusted the data produced by Chhattisgarh government’s officials more than those provided by the state Congress.

In the backdrop of explicit ire displayed by Chowdary and PCC leaders towards Ramesh for Kanker district and Gatapar zila panchayat (Rajnandgaon) receiving MNREGA awards, Sahay’s calculated words for the minister is not only seen as balancing act by party but also an indicator that the high command does not want anymore controversy over the matter now.

When sought his take over Chhattisgarh government’s performance, Sahay said it was the then Congress that laid solid foundation of development in the newly formed state and the incumbent government had simply followed the suit.

On Rahul Gandhi’s new responsibility as Congress vice president, Sahay said the party had given the country its future leader in the form of Gandhi. He extolled Gandhi for initiating dialogue in the organisation.

Asked over his role in coalgate, he claimed he was untainted. He rather challenged his opponents to prove his involvement in the coal scam. Sahay has allegedly recommended for coal blocks allocation to one of the state’s steel companies – SKS Ispat.
