Congress: Wrong power bills can take life

Raipur, August 28, 2012

Launching scathing attack on government over reports of wrong power bills being served to consumers, Congress has asked it to take stern action against guilty staffers involved in preparing such bills.
“The consumers are already upset with hiked power tariff and now Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CSPDCL) is imposing inordinate bills on them. We fear the wrong bills can take more lives as has happened with Sanju Sen who died after he failed to convince the power company officials that the bill of Rs 34700 served on his name was not genuine,” said Congress spokesperson Sushil Anand Shukla.
He alleged that the power companies were threatening consumers of disconnecting their power lines if they would not pay their bills.
“It is unfortunate that corruption prevails from top to bottom in the scam-hub Energy department, but the government is sparing the scammers and compensating the revenue loss by imposing hiked power tariff and inordinate bills on consumers,” he charged.
