Sahu demands judicial probe into lathicharge on farmers

Raipur, August 01, 2012

Former state Congress president Dhanendra Sahu has demanded judicial probe into police lathicharge on farmers while they were protesting during bhoomipujan by Chief Minister Raman Singh for several constructions works at Naya Raipur on Wednesday.
“The farmers were representatives of Kisan Kalyan Samiti (KKS). They were protesting against forcible acquisition of their lands for Naya Raipur. The police barbarically lathicharged and arrested them. Many of the farmers got seriously injured in lathicharge,” said Sahu.
He alleged that the office-bearers of KKS were arrested last night from their homes under section 147, 148, 506, 156, 332 and 353 of IPC.
“In the past, many times the farmers sought solution from the government regarding forcible acquisition of their lands but the latter put a deaf ear. Now, when they were protesting peacefully, the government took repressive action against them,” he said.
He asked the government to conduct judicial inquiry into lathicharge on farmers and their unconditional release.
