Education Minister giving false statement: Cong

Raipur, August 09, 2012
Launching scathing attack against Education Minister Brijmohan Agrawal for his latest remark against Centre, the Congress said that the minister was giving false statement to earn cheap publicity. “Let the state government disclose the total fund it received from the Centre for education sector and how it used the fund in improving the education system,” challenged chief Congress spokesperson Shailesh Nitin Trivedi.
“The UPA government is making full attempt to make increase literacy rate in the country. Its main schemes are Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Mid-day Meal Programme. In Chhattisgarh too, the improvement in education system was done by the Centre through its schemes,” he added.
“From 2004-2010, under different schemes of the Centre, the state government opened 16802 primary and middle schools and constructed new buildings for 8088 primary schools,” he said.
“Similarly, for better health of the students, under the Central schemes, potable water arrangement was done in 2175 schools of the state while toilets were constructed in 6155 schools,” he pointed.
“To provide quality education to the students, about 106211 teachers were imparted training and 53148 new teachers were appointed in the different schools. Moreover, 3368767 students receive free-of-cost text books from the government. The funds for these purposes come from the Centre,” he said.
“Hence, the Education Minister is merely trying to mislead people by giving such false statements. He should tell the public the amount his government has spend from state exchequer on education sector by far,” he said.
