Profiteering rises with gutkha ban: Congress

Raipur, August 01, 2012

Congress on Wednesday said that profiteering increased with ban on gutkha in state. Hailing prohibition on gutkha sale the state president of Congress business cell Kanhaiyya Agrawal said that the government should have ensured cent percent implementation of ban.
“But gutkha is still being sold despite ban. Now, the gutkha addicts are buying it at high rates. It seems the government itself is encouraging profiteering,” he said.
He said the government gave little time to gutkha businessmen to clear their stock before announcing ban. “The government did it to benefit the gutkha businessmen who are now selling gutkha at twofold to fourfold rate,” he alleged.
He said besides prohibiting gutkha sale, the government must also ban sale of liquor and gudakhu in state.
