Students’ union polls: NSUI burns BJP govt effigy

Raipur, August 23, 2012

The NSUI members on Thursday burnt an effigy of BJP government at Budhapara-based dharna spot for stalling students’ union polls.
“The government has merely announced to conduct students’ union polls but does not seem serious on it. The coordination committee, in its June 28, 2012 meeting, had decided that the elections would be organised in all the universities. According to academic calendar, the polls should have been conducted till August 23, i.e. till Thursday but the government had not even issued notification in this regard,” said the NSUI leader Gulzeb Ahmed.
He alleged that the BJP government was scared of NSUI’s popularity and hence deferring students’ union polls.
He said the NSUI members would show black flag to every government representative if the polls would be held quickly.
While burning effigy, Ahmed was accompanied by Ajay Pal, Shahbaz Hussein, Sheikh Asif, Nadeem Salat, Ashish Ghosh, Shashikant Barore, Pankaj Singh, etc.
