Cong flays govt for ignoring health services in tribal belts

Raipur, August 12, 2013

Congress on Monday flayed government for ignoring health services in tribal belts. “The recent diarrhoea deaths in Bijapur and Narayanpur districts prove how indifferent is the government towards health facilities in tribal regions from where it won maximum assembly seats in last two polls,” said PCC president Charandas Mahant and CLP leader Ravindra Choubey.

“The state’s health facilities have crashed due to interference of BJP’s public representatives. While impoverished class in Bastar is compelled to live amid poor health infrastructure, the government is claiming to have achieved several milestones,” they said.

They pointed that the Congress-led UPA government, under its objective to improve health infrastructure in the country, had provided Rs 1306 crore to Chhattisgarh amid year 2005 to March 2013, but the BJP government did not implement national health schemes properly.

“The Centre has provided 5076 sub-health centres, 741 primary health centres, 148 community health centres, doctors, nurses, medicines, etc in rural pockets of Chhattisgarh under its National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). However, the government could not improve treatment facilities in remote areas,” they said.

“In Bijapur district, there are 90 sub-health centres, 12 primary health centres, four community health centres and one district hospital one district hospital while in Narayanpur there are 56 sub-health centres, seven primary health centres and district hospital, nevertheless several people died due to diarrhoea, a glaring example of government’s negligence,” they added.

“The ruling party is dreaming to win Vidhan Sabha polls for third consecutive time on the basis of fake developmental figures but people have realised its gimmicks and made their mindset to dethrone it,” they said.
