Cong poll panel starts filtering applicants

Raipur, August 12, 2013

Congress election committee started shortlisting applicants for upcoming assembly polls as its first meeting held at the residence of CLP leader Ravindra Choubey on Monday evening. In the first instalment, the panel tried to evolve consensus over three to five applicants from each assembly seat. The shortlisted names will be forwarded to screening committee.

According to information, the panel will complete shortlisting of candidates by August end or September first week.

Earlier, the meeting started one hour late from its scheduled time as senior party MLA and panel member Ajit Jogi reached Choubey’s residence at about 8 pm. He was accompanied by his supporters.

Jogi’s entry was a big surprise for his opponents who had least expected him in the meeting. Jogi, who is presently touring intensely across the state, holding public rallies and overtly announcing his favourite candidates in particular assembly constituencies, is said to have attended the meeting to put forth his explicit opinion on the winnable candidates.

Besides Jogi, the meeting was attended by AICC treasurer Motilal Vora, Chhattisgarh Congress incharge BK Hariprasada and Rajya Sabha member Mohsina Kidwai, PCC president Charandas Mahant, CLP leader Ravindra Choubey, CLP deputy leader Rampukar Singh, party MLA Mohammad Akbar, former PCC chief Dhanendra Sahu, senior tribal leader Bodhram Kanwar and Dhanesh Patila. Besides, heads of Pradesh Mahila Congress, Seva Dal, Youth Congress, NSUI and Indian National Trade Union Congress also attended the meeting as invited members of the panel.
