Govt’s grafts will be main issue in VS polls: Cong

Raipur, August 02, 2013

Reacting to chief minister Raman Singh’s statement that development would be main issue in upcoming assembly elections Congress on Friday said the key issue would be BJP government’s corruption and bad governance, not development in polls.

He said according to latest figures of planning commission while poverty in country had reduced by 15.3% in last one decade the number of poor in Chhattisgarh had increased during same period.

“The state’s annual budget was Rs 3500 crore during its formation. The budget increased to Rs 4500 crore by year 2003. Since then the budget increased sharply and has presently reached Rs 50000 crore. So, in last ten years the state’s budget inflated by 15 times. Meanwhile, it received Rs one lakh crore from Centre. Unfortunately, the government did nothing for benefit the poor through this massive fund. Instead, it sold state’s water, forests and lands,” said Congress spokesperson Sushil Anand Shukla.

“From coal scam to land scams, the state government is tainted and it would have to clarify on all these issues during polls,” he said.
