Congress poll committee’s first meeting is likely to be held in third week of August 2013. The panel will discuss over probable candidates from the applications it received from district and block heads.
The party had earlier announced of finalising polls candidates three months before polls, but the selection procedures got delayed due to Darbha incident on May 25, 2013.
On directives of party vice president Rahul Gandhi a national team is already conducting survey in Chhattisgarh to pick appropriate candidates. Besides, Gandhi has also agreed to accept recommendations of senior leaders if they would ensure victory of their proposed candidates.
Considering this, sources said, the poll panel is likely to receive more applications from district and block presidents as well as senior leaders in coming days. After filtering applications, the poll panel will forward list of candidates to high command though party’s Chhattisgarh incharge BK Hariprasada.
According to information, the party can announce its candidates in second week of September 2013. The poll panel comprises of AICC treasurer Motilal Vora, PCC president Charandas Mahant, CLP leader Ravindra Choubey, CLP deputy leader Rampukar Singh, party MLA Mohammad Akbar, for PCC chief Dhanendra Sahu and senior party legislator Ajit Jogi.
