The RMC will distribute Rs 17.70 lakh to 177 families under National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) on October 31. Each family will receive Rs 10000. Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak will hand over the cheques to the beneficiaries by at municipal’s conference hall at 4 pm. The officials of the RMC’s Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare Department informed that the NFBS is a Centrally-sponsored scheme and the entire fund is financed by Union Ministry of Rural Development. The objective of the NFBS is to assist the families living below poverty line (BPL). The financial assistance is given to the family on the death of the breadwinner in the family. The death of such primary breadwinner should have occurred whilst he or she is 18 to 64 years of age, the officials said.
