Union Minister for Agriculture and Food Processing Charandas Mahant on Monday alleged that the state government was insensitive towards the flood victims as they were still waiting for adequate help.
Mahant said he had recently toured flood-affected areas of Raigarh and other adjoining districts with PCC president Nandkumar Patel and Orissa MP and state Congress incharge secretary Bhakt Charandas and found that the government simply distributed the cheques of Rs 3000 to the flood victims and did not return to see their conditions again.
“The floods have damaged crops, houses and properties. The flood victims are living in dejected condition because of indifference of local administrations. The government was the only hope for them but it too shrugged off by giving only Rs 3000 to each of them,” Mahant said.
He informed that he had issued stern directives to the district officials to provide complete help to the flood victims so that they may not die of starvation or migrate to other states.
The minister said he would submit a report on his tour to flood-hit regions of Chhattisgarh to the Centre and seek sufficient relief package for the affected people.
