Patel to delegate responsibilities to new office-bearers today

Raipur, October 11, 2011

The PCC president Nandkumar Patel has returned from his weeklong Europe tour. Large number of partymen reached Mana airport to welcome him on Tuesday. With Patel’s return to state capital, the party activities are likely to expedite. According to information, he will delegate responsibilities to the new office-bearers on Wednesday.

Earlier, party workers from different parts of the state including Bilaspur, Mahasamund and Raigarh gathered at Patel’s Devendra Nagar residence to meet him after his abroad tour. The party workers from Sahu and Utkal societies also met Patel at his residence and expressed their displeasure for being ignored during constitution of new PCC executive. Patel assured the workers of both societies to induct their candidates in the organisation.

Later, Patel held discussion with general secretary Subhash Sharma and media cell chairman Shailesh Nitin Trivedi regarding job delegation to the new office-bearers. He will be at Congress Bhawan the entire day on Wednesday to assign jobs. For this, all the new office-bearers have been asked to mandatorily remain present at Congress Bhawan.

Sources informed that the general secretaries would be assigned charge of organisation, administration, finance, discipline, cells and morchas. The responsibility to prepare organisational schedules and tour programmes of party leaders would also be given to one of the general secretaries. The vice presidents and secretaries would be given the charge of Lok Sabha constituencies.

While talking to the media persons, Patel clarified that there was no dispute on new PCC executive and it was constituted on unanimity. “It is a balanced body and eligible candidates have been given opportunity. Those who have been left would get chance in future,” he said.

Rubbishing the reports that some party leaders were upset by the new body, he said, “Even if anyone is displeased, the matter would be sorted out cordially.”

When asked his take over annoyance of Sahu and Utkal societies for being neglected, Patel said partymen had right to put their demands before him. “Presently, our target is BJP and we want to remove it from power in the next Vidhan Sabha elections,” he said.

He indicated that the party would constitute a couple of more committees in coming days. He said the remaining list of president of District Congress Committees (DCCs) would be announced before December 2011.

On his Europe trip, he said he had been to Italy to participate a programme organised by Scouts and Guides while rest of his tour was a personal affair.

When asked his comment on former BJP president LK Advani’s Jan Chenta Yatra, Patel said the veteran leaders should have started the yatra from Chhattisgarh. “It would have been the perfect start for Advani. Presently, the BJP is ruling Chhattisgarh and corruption has become synonym to the government machinery,” he said. Patel, however, added that the Congress would not oppose Advani’s yatra. On Chief Minister Raman Singh’s US tour, Patel quipped – “CMs are supposed to travel extensively.”
