Women upliftment project to be started under NLRM

The state government will commence women upliftment project under National Rural Livelihood Mission (NLRM) in 30 development blocks. The project would be meant for womenfolk belonging to poor families. Under NLRM, the government will constitute self-help groups and then impart training to the women to make them self-reliant and financially strong. In this connection, Chief Secretary P Joy Oommen convened a meeting at Mantralaya on Thursday. The entire project would be implemented with the help of World Bank. The government will also constitute new self-help groups in other development blocks apart from 30 selected ones. The government will receive fund for the project after it would open a full-time state-level unit for operation of the project. The government will also have to appoint seven experts at state-level. For effective implementation of the project, team of officials would also visit Andhra Pradesh and Bihar where similar projects had been implemented successfully. Oommen has asked the officials to prepare a work-plan for the project by establishing coordination with all the departments. The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary Narayan Singh, Principal Secretary Finance Ajay Singh, Principal Secretary Panchayat and Rural Development Vivek Dhand, Secretary Tribal Welfare Department Manoj Pingua and other senior officials from different departments.
