Advani projecting self as PM candidate thru yatra: Cong

Raipur, October 12, 2011

The Congress has alleged that senior BJP leader LK Advani was projecting himself as most appropriate candidate for Prime Minister post by taking out Jan Chenta Yatra (anti-corruption yatra). “The infighting in BJP for PM post has surfaced and Advani wants to show the country that he is the only candidate for the coveted from his party,” said PCC president Nandkumar Patel and CLP leader Ravindra Choubey on Wednesday.
“When Advani commenced his first yatra back in 1991 from Somnath, communal violence triggered in different parts of the country and consequently his yatra ended with his arrest in Bihar instead of concluding in prescheduled Ayodhya. Now again, when he has started yatra, communal violence is likely to spark off but he does not seem concerned about peace and tranquility of the country and is rather interested in bolstering his PM-in-waiting image,” said Patel and Choubey.
They said Advani should have established an example by starting his yatra from Chhattisgarh and must have replied over the allegations of corruption leveled against the BJP government.
“We have recently submitted a charge-sheet to President Pratibha Patil against the state government had handed over evidences against the corruption cases. To prove that his yatra really intends to create awareness among people about corruption, Advani should overtly criticise his party’s government in state and ask the BJP leadership to take action the corrupt ministers,” the duo said.
They said that the annual reports of Lok Ayog and Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) were clear indicative that corruption prevailed in the government machinery from top to bottom.
They said even one of the Bihar MLAs from Samta Party, an ally of BJP, Rajeev Ranjan, in his recent Chhattisgarh visit, had released a survey report prepared by one private firm that placed Chhattisgarh state on top among the most corrupt state of the country.
Patel and Choubey said Advani would have to give answer to all the allegations against the BJP government when his yatra would reach Chhattisgarh.
