Gudhiyari fire station to start before October 15

Kota, Bhatagaon, Mova fire stations to be functional in two months

Raipur, October 07, 2011

The much-awaited Gudhiyari fire station will start before October 15. The assurance was given by Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak and RMC commissioner Rajesh Sukumar Toppo to a delegation of Congress leaders on Friday when it expressed its concerns before the duo that the capital city would become more prone to the fire mishaps during Diwali in the absence of adequate fire fighting arrangements.
In this connection, the delegation also submitted a memorandum to Nayak and Toppo. The delegation further demanded to begin operations of proposed fire stations at Kota, Bhatagaon, Mova on which the Nayak and Toppo assured that the three stations would be ready in next two months.
The delegation led by DCC president Inderchand Dhariwal said that the RMC shifted the only fire station inside city at Fire Brigade chowk to the outskirts at Chhattisgarh Nagar (near Santoshi Nagar) about three months back without making alternative arrangements.
“Even the Gudhiyari fire station, which was supposed to start three years back, has no basic infrastructure. With Diwali falling in the end of October, the people would engage in intense shopping in next couple of days and the RMC still has not taken any fire safety measures in busy markets,” said Dhariwal.
“The city’s population has increased markedly and so has its area. To ensure security of such a vast population, the RMC actually requires fire stations at all the four corners of the city hence it should promptly start the proposed stations in different areas,” said Dhariwal.
The delegation was comprised of DCC vice president Mandalal Taleda, Satish Jain, DCC spokesperson Sheikh Shakeel, Nitin Thakur, Radheshyam Vibhar, Dinesh Tiwari, Nandan Jha, Supriya Rao, Jyoti Rao, etc.
