Senior Congress leader and MLA Ajit Jogi has alleged that the state government had failed to spend fund under Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA). “The Centre had released Rs 257 crore for environment conservation and afforestation in the state, but the government could only spend Rs 85 crore. Still, it is allowing felling of trees,” Jogi said.
“For proposed fourlane project on NH-53, the government has sought permission from the Centre to cut 19200 trees coming under project range. The Congress has strongly opposed felling of trees for the project,” he said.
“Since the BJP has stopped plantation on national highways, it does not have moral right to cut the trees for fourlane project. Instead, it should accomplish the task ensuring protection of trees,” Jogi said.
