Guv, CM condole death of ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh

Raipur, October 10, 2011

Governor Shekhar Dutt and Chief Minister Raman Singh on Monday condoled death of ghazal maestro, composer, and music director, Jagjit Singh. In his condolence message, Dutt said – “The untimely death of Jagjit Singh has left a void which will be difficult to fill. As a singer and composer, he understood the tastes of the common people. He amalgamated ghazals with lyrics and geet in such a way that he narrowed the gap between the understanding of classical music and modern Ghazal singing. His unique voice was a departure from the prevalent style of ghazal rendition, which instantly became a hit with the masses. All his compositions were lyrical masterpieces and shall remain embedded in our minds forever. His compositions were unique and in a class of their own.” In his condolence message, the CM said Jagjit Singh’s physical presence would be sorely missed even though he would continue to live in the hearts of fans through his melodies. “I pray to god that the members of the bereaved family gather the strength to overcome the crisis,” the CM said.
