National wildlife week begins in state today




The Forest Department will observe national wildlife week across the state from Saturday (October 1 to 7). To create awareness among people about wildlife, the department will organise various programmes at school and college level in every district.
For students, the department will organise painting, essay, speech and quiz and debate competitions. At school level, there will be three categories – first – from class 1st to 5th, second – class 6th to 8th and third – 10th to 12th. The first three winners in the competitions would be felicitated by the department.
The programmes under Raipur forest division would be organised at the department’s Pandri-based sports campus. On October 2, exhibition related to wildlife would be organised in the campus from 4 pm. On October 3, essay and painting competitions would be organised at 3 pm and 4:30 pm respectively. On October 4, speech and debate competitions would be organised at 4 pm and on the following day, quiz competition will be held at 3 pm. The concluding and award distribution ceremony will be organised on October 7.
The winners under Raipur forest division will be taken on tour to Barnawapara wildlife sanctuary on October 9.
A rally will also be taken out in the capital city at 7:30 am on Saturday. The rally will begin from Raipur forest division office at GE Road and return to the same place via Shastri chowk and Jaistambh chowk.
