Govt presented fake figures of gram suraj drive: Akbar

Raipur, April 16, 2012

Congress legislator Mohammad Akbar has alleged that the government had presented fake figures of grievance redressal during its gram suraj campaign during 2011-12. Citing annual report of government’s General Administration Department & Public Grievance Redressal Department 2011-12, he said it was an irony that the total number of cases solved surpassed the total number of complaints received. “This can happen only under BJP’s regime which is deceiving people since 2005 on the name of gram suraj campaign,” he said while interacting with the media persons at Congress Bhawan on Monday.
He said Chief Minister Raman Singh himself had tabled the ‘fake figures’ containing report in the Vidhan Sabha. “The report said the government received 83025 applications regarding different demands in Bilaspur district. However, the number of redressed cases is 83035, ten more than the received applications,” he pointed.
“Similarly, the report said that 13481 applications were received in Mahasamund district while the number of redressed cases is 13487, six more than received applications,” he added.
He charged that the government was only playing with the figures on papers and had done nothing at practical footing.
“The objective of the gram suraj campaign is to take stock of public welfare programmes in the rural pockets. Besides, the government also receives complaints and demands in the form of applications from the villagers. For this, teams of government officials and employees tour the rural areas. The responsibility of district’s campaign lies with Collector who reports to Secretary who in turn reports to incharge minister of the district. Above all, the CM himself supervises the entire campaign by conducting sudden inspections. About 30000 officials and employees are being engaged in this campaign, however the fake figures dominate it,” he said.

‘CG Lok Ayog (Amendment) Bill 2012 to be tabled again’

Raipur, April 16, 2012

Congress legislator Mohammad Akbar informed that Chhattisgarh Lok Ayog (Amendment) Bill 2012 would be tabled again in next session of state Assembly. “The Governor has recommended for presenting this bill again in the House and I have received information in this regard,” he confirmed.
He informed that he had tabled the bill in the House as a non-governmental bill with an objective to make necessary changes in state Lok Ayog to give it more powers.
“We have put demand to the government several times regarding empowerment of Lok Ayog but the latter take no initiative,” he said.
“Presently, the state Lok Ayog has limited rights and lacks an investigation wing as well. We want the Lok Ayog to be equipped with its own probe wing so that transparency could be maintained. To curb corruption, the government must pass this bill,’ he said.
