Cong to BJP: Take public reaction on grafts in govt

Raipur, April 17, 2012

Congress on Tuesday advised the ruling party to take reaction on corruption in government during gram suraj abhiyan (GSA). “The government has completely failed to curb corruption in last eight years and the entire system is engaged in irregularities. Now, the BJP should show some courage and take reaction from the public about the graft cases during GSA,” said Congress spokesperson Mahendra Chhabda.
He said the BJP government needed to do self-analysis and must contemplate about its failure to fulfill the promises it made to the public. “The people have every right to know why the ruling party made promises and then ignored them,” he added.
“The BJP had promised to give Rs 270 paddy bonus and free electricity up to 5 HP for irrigation to the farmers in previous Assembly elections but nothing happened. The government is answerable to the people. Similarly, the power surplus state has turned into ‘scarce power’ state which is evident from frequent power cuts in both urban and rural areas. Certainly, the government deserves the blame for this condition,” he said.
“Corruption also dominates Central schemes from MNREGA to PMGSY. There are thousands of complaints along with evidences in this regard. Why the government has not taken any action against the guilty people till date,” he asked.
He pointed that the Chief Minister and his cabinet ministers had toured to different places during previous GSA and had not only done promises but also laid foundation stones in many areas but neither promises nor the projects could touch the practical footing.
“The common man is in dilemma as to whom should he approach regarding his complaints with no government representative to pay him heedful ears. Ironically, the government is silent over this,” he said.
He reminded the government about the three questions asked by Congress president Nandkumar Patel to the CM and said the people of Chhattisgarh too were waiting for the answer. The three questions were – how much fund the Centre has provided to the state government in last eight years, how many suicidal cases of farmers occurred during BJP’s two tenures and which are the places from where 3.5 percent of the total tribals migrated.
