In yet another incident, two patients from capital city reportedly lost their eyesight as their cataract operations were conducted by an alleged fake eye surgeon Dr Keshav Sahu.
The Youth Congress (YC) members led by their Raipur West Vidhan Sabha general secretary Deepak Jaiswal gheraoed Sahu’s Amapara-based eye hospital - Shivam Netra Chikitsalaya/Vision Centre and then lodged complaint against him with Saraswati Nagar police station on Saturday.
Jaiswal informed that the victims Laxmi Bai and Dasru Sahu underwent cataract operation at Sahu’s eye hospital recently. After operation, while Laxmi Bai complained of losing eyesight, Dasru Sahu complained of blurred vision.
“When Laxmi Bai and Dasru Sahu along with their acquaintances informed about this, we reached Sahu’s hospital to seek his explanation but he not only tried to mislead us but also threatened the victims. Hence, we immediately registered a complaint with the police and sought action against the fake doctor,” Jaiswal informed.
“Sahu does not hold formal medical degree of surgeon but surprisingly he is overtly conducting cataract operations and victimising the innocents. The government should quickly identify such fake doctors and not only prohibit their practices but also file case against them,” he said.
He informed that Sahu was also accused of deceiving rural eye patients by presenting himself as authorised eye surgeon. “He always targeted eye patients having smart cards and managed to convenience them about his qualifications. This is how, he made huge money by deceiving poor people,” Jaiswal said.
He further informed that Sahu was operating his existing eye hospital on the name of Vision Centre two months back but when he got trapped in ‘operations done to get smart card money cases’, he put the name of one Dr HC Godheja at Vision Centre and started his business through Shivam Netra Chikitsalaya at the same premises.
Jaiswal demanded criminal case against Sahu, free treatment for Laxmi Bai and Dasru Sahu in the best eye hospital and disbursal of adequate financial compensation to them.
On the occasion, the YC members who accompanied Jaiswal were Dhananjay Singh Thakur, Yogesh Tiwari, Rohit Chandel, Sawan Kashyap, Raju Shrivas, Mahendra Shrivas, Pankaj Thakur, Vinay Sharma, Ashish Sawarkar, Bhakal Yadav, etc.
