I am a stalwart Congress worker: Gill

Raipur, April 24, 2012

Rubbishing the charges of voting against budget proposal during Raipur Municipal Corporation’s (RMC) general body meeting (GBM), Congress corporator Lakhwant Singh Gill has claimed that he is a stalwart party worker and he cannot think about going against partyline.
Gill’s clarifications come in the form of a reply to a notice shot by DCC Raipur Urban president Inderchand Dhariwal to whom RMC Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak and other Congress corporators had complained that Gill had voted against budget proposal during GBM.
Blaming RMC Speaker Sanjay Shrivastava for counting his vote against budget proposal, Gill said he had actually raised his hand seeking permission from the Speaker to speak on operation of city buses.
“The agenda of city bus operation was tabled during the GBM on April 30. On this issue, the House proceedings obstructed a couple of times as the members of both ruling and opposition parties started shouting. Majority of the corporators were opposing Speaker who suddenly asked Mayor to present the budget. Meanwhile, I was repeatedly demanding from the Speaker to allow me to speak on the agenda of city bus operation. While the House was uproarious, the Speaker announced for voting on budget proposal. At that time, I again raised my hand to speak on city bus operation agenda but the Speaker counted it as vote against budget proposal,” Gill said.
He said the party could also watch the video recording of the House proceedings on April 30 to confirm whether his claims were true or false.
“In fact, there is no provision of voting on budget proposal but the Speaker did it. I had raised my doubts over the speaker’s intentions since the beginning of the GBM. Eventually, he counted my vote against budget proposal out of malice,” he charged.
According to information, Dhariwal has forwarded Gill’s reply to the party’s discipline committee which will take decision in next meeting after consulting with PCC president Nandkumar Patel.
