Protesting proposed road before Government Science College girls’ hostel, the large number of NSUI activists along with students of the college obstructed road construction work for about three hours before the police held them on Saturday. Later, all the activists were released at evening.
Notably, the NSUI members, led by former state president Sanjeev Shukla, had recently gheraoed Commissioner Higher Education in protest of the proposed road and had informed that the girls’ hostel would not remain safe with increased public movement in the locality.
“The proposed road, which will link GE road and Ring Road No 1, was earlier slated to be constructed besides Ayurvedic College but the Urban Administration department changed the plan to benefit the land mafias,” alleged NSUI Raipur district president Pradeep Sahu and Gulzeb Ahmed.
Shukla informed that the Government Science College administration too was concerned about the institute’s grading in the backdrop of the proposed road. “Presently, the grading of the college is B++ but it will decrease when the new road will be opened for public,” he added.
“Besides, the herbal garden developed by the government spending crores would also be destroyed with the road construction,” he pointed.
The NSUI members informed that both Ayurvedic College and Government Science College administrations were against the proposed road and had expressed their objection in written to the Higher Education department.
The NSUI members who were present on Saturday’s protest were Abhinay Raute, Tarachand Mishra, Rahul Tiwari, Vipin Mishra, Ravi Sen, Rajesh Nishad, Tarun Soni, Shashikant, Sunny, Mahesh Yadav, Himanshu Ramteke, Aman Thakur, Tushar, Suraj, Raja, Abhishek Agrawal, Kanhaiyya, Mohit, Amitabh, Ishant Soni, Sunil Netam, Sandeep Thakur, etc.
