Taking a dig at government for sacking large number panchayat secretaries, Congress on Friday termed as unjust and repressive. “By far, the government has reportedly terminated about 9734 panchayat secretaries who are peacefully agitating in favour of their genuine demands,” said state Congress president Nandkumar Patel and CLP leader Ravindra Choubey.
They said the government had done a host of promises to the panchayat representatives during 2008 Assembly elections but fulfilled none. “Now, when the panchayat secretaries are trying to remind the government about its promises, they are being sacked,” the duo said.
They said panchayat secretaries play vital role in rural development and their contribution in implementation of government schemes at panchayat level could not ignored. “Hence, the government should accept their demands,” the duo said.
