Govt responsible for water crisis: Cong

Raipur, April 18, 2012

Flaying BJP corporators for gheraoing Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Wednesday for water crisis in Raipur, the Congress advised them to put pressure on the government to quickly complete the pending Rs 303 crore-Water Augmentation Scheme (WAS).
“It is not the RMC but the government which is responsible for drinking water crisis in the city. The BJP corporators are targeting the wrong people. They should rather train their guns towards their own government,” said DCC Raipur Urban president Inderchand Dhariwal.
He pointed that the government was supposed to construct 17 overhead water tanks under centrally-sponsored WAS in three years but it could even achieve half of the task.
“The project commenced in 2006-07. The Centre allocated Rs 303 crore to the state government. But till date only five water tanks have been constructed. So, it is the government’s responsibility to expedite the project and ensure provision of ample water to the Raipurians,” said Dhariwal.
He said the Congress would soon gherao Urban Administration Minister in this regard.
