Anarchy prevails in health centres: Patel

Raipur, April 04, 2012

The BJP legislator Devji Bhai Patel has alleged that anarchy prevailed in the health centres of the state, especially in the rural pockets in the ambience of Raipur city. His allegations came in the form of call attention notice at state Assembly on Wednesday.
He informed that Mandir Hasaud (Arang block) and Serikhedi, Mana basti, Mandhar, Silyari Tendua, Dondekala, etc (Dharsiva block) either do not have medicine stock or have expired medicines. Similarly, these places lack other basic facilities like blood test, etc.
He said the medical staff remain absent from majority of the health centres and consequently the government campaigns never benefit the poor people. In the absence of medical staff, the local non-degree holding self-declared doctors play with the life of poor by exploiting them. These fake doctors even misuse the smart cards being distributed to the BPL families, he said. He blamed the entire Health department for abject condition of health centres and said the responsible officials merely give statements instead of improving the centres.
The Health and Family Welfare Minister Amar Agrawal denied all the charges and said the department provides sufficient medicinal stock to the health centres besides other basic facilities. Besides, the department also provide medicines to the health centres through Jeevan Deep Committee, he said.
He also denied that the medical staff remains absent from the health centres and said instead the sufficient number of patients was being treated in such centres. Last year, about 66440 patients were treated at OPDs and 6488 were admitted in community and health centres of Arang development block, he said. Similarly, 44019 patients were treated at OPDs and 2473 were admitted in community and health centres of Dharsiva development block in 2011.
He informed that the villagers of Dharsiva and Arang blocks had taken adequate benefit of the government campaigns like family welfare programme, vaccination programme, Janani Suraksha Yojna and leprosy programme.
He said the government was making efforts to curb practices of non-degree holding people in rural areas by creating awareness among the villagers to get treated in hospitals.
He also said that the smart cards were fully used by the BPL families and informed that 1478 beneficiaries of Arang block underwent treatment amounting Rs 11633363 through such cards and 4876 beneficiaries of Dharsiva block underwent treatment amounting Rs 32072812.
He said the government aimed to provide better medical facilities to the common people and informed that over one lakh patients had been taken to the hospitals by Sanjeevni 108 ambulances.
