Congress to oppose proposed hike in power tariff

Raipur, December 21, 2011

The Congress has said that it would strongly oppose proposed hike in power tariff by the power companies. The president of DCC Raipur City Inderchand Dhariwal said the proposed 30 percent power tariff hike would deeply dent the pockets of the consumers.
“There is no need to hike power tariff. Instead, the power companies should cut their additional expenditures,” Dhariwal suggested.
He said the expenditures of power companies had increased to four times since the division of Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board (CSEB) into five. “The government should rather merge all the power companies into one unit again to cut down huge expenditure. This will give relief to the consumers from frequent hike in power tariff,” Dhariwal said.
He reminded the government that the power tariff was hiked merely twelve months before and the power companies were once again planning to impose additional financial burden on the consumers.
