Hariprasada to meet state Congress mayors tomorrow

Raipur, December 05, 2011

The state Congress incharge BK Hariprasada will meet party’s four mayors Kiranmayi Nayak, Vani Rao, Nirmala Yadav and Naresh Dakalia from Raipur, Bilaspur, Bhilai and Rajnandgaon municipal corporations respectively at New Delhi on December 7. Hariprasada has also asked PCC president Nandkumar Patel and CLP leader Ravindra Choubey to attend the meeting.
Notably, Hariprasada decided to take meeting of the four mayors after he received complaints from the organisation that they do not coordinate with the party workers and ignore senior leaders during important events of their respective civic bodies.
According to information, the four mayors too have urged Hariprasada to talk to them separately on the problems they face due to whims of the organisation. The four mayors have also informed Hariprasada that some of the party leaders, who belong to different camps, frequently target them and cause hindrance in their works.
Hariprasada, who does not believe in factionalism, has already stated that he simply want the party to work as a unit. But now he is concerned about the increasing spats between the party leaders.
The most recent spat is between RMC Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak and PCC general secretary Subhash Sharma who is also the president of Sundar Nagar society. The differences between the two leaders surfaced when the RMC locked the office as well as the shops of Sundar Nagar society recently for not paying annual tax for 14 years. Presently, the outstanding amount against the society is Rs 15.77 lakh.
But instead of paying the tax, Sharma, who belonged to Vora camp, launched offensive against the municipal. While a group of Sharma’s supporters lodged complaint against Nayak to the PCC head, another group staged dharna against the RMC before the society office.
Nayak, a staunch Jogi supporter, defends the municipal action terming it within the norms and legal. The Jogi camp has also jumped to her rescue and says that some of the partymen first violate municipal norms and then put the mayor in an embarrassing situation.
The Congress mayors have critics in the form of senior leaders in the party too. These leaders think that the mayors who enjoy the party banner do not give importance to them during municipal events.
Hariprasada has hinted that he is more interested in sorting out the matter between the mayors and the organisation instead of taking any action against any. Sources informed that the party cannot afford any senior face at this juncture when it has proved its unity and aggression against the ruling BJP in the recent past and advancing confidently to win the 2013 Assembly elections.
