Raipur, December 28,

More than half a dozen
officials (both existing and retired) of power companies are projecting
themselves as the most apt candidate for post of Chhattisgarh State Electricity
Regulatory Commission (CSERC) member. The post will be vacated by existing
CSERC members BK Sharma who will complete his tenure on January 3, 2012.
Notably, the term of
CSERC member is of five years. The maximum age-limit for the post is 65 years. With
just a couple of days remaining for Sharma’s retirement, the aspirants have
started using their influence to get the post. Some of these aspirants are
facing serious allegations related to irregularities in their departments.
The government had
invited applications for CSERC member a couple of months back. According to
information, the officials who have applied for the post include retired MD of Chhattisgarh
State Power Trading Company Limited VK Shrivastava, MD of Chhattisgarh State
Power Transmission Company Limited GS Kalsi, director operation of Chhattisgarh
State Power Distribution Company Limited SD Diwan, retired MD of Chhattisgarh
State Power Generation Company Limited GS Deshpandey and retired chief engineer
of Chhattisgarh State Power Holding Company Limited AK Tiwari.
Considering
controversial background of some of the aspiring officials, it is expected that
there would be a major challenge before the selection committee constituted by
the government to finalise the candidate maintaining transparency.
