Gets 48 votes against
opposition’s 37
Raipur, December 20,
2011
The Chhattsigarh government
has survived no confidence motion moved by opposition Congress in Vidhan Sabha
during the ongoing winter session. The ruling party got 48 votes as against
opposition’s 37.
The House members who
could not participate in the voting process were Ajit Jogi and his spouse Dr
Renu Jogi (both Congress), Brahmanand Netam from BJP and Saurabh Singh and
Dujram Boudh (both BSP).
Chief Minister Raman
Singh said the people of Chhattisgarh had shown trust on BJP in back-to-back
Assembly elections and his government was committed to give good governance. Denying
corruption and other charges leveled by Congress on the government, the CM said
instead his party did its job sincerely while in power despite little help from
the Centre.
Replying on illegal
mining charges leveled by Congress MLA Mohammad Akbar, the CM countered allegations
on the Prime Minister terming him responsible for wrongly allocating 208 coal
blocks in Chhattisgarh. “The Centre’s wrong decision cost the country dear as
it incurred Rs 85000 crore loss,” he said.
On FDI in retail sector
he said it would largely affect small shopkeepers. He said his government would
never allow FDI in retail sector.
Speaking on the
government’s achievements the CM cited example of the state’s public
distribution system (PDS). “The Prime Minister, Union Finance Minister and
Union Agriculture Ministers have praised our PDS. The Centre even wanted to
adopt our PDS as prototype,” he said.
On the government’s
relation with the media he said it had always been cordial. “My government
neither interfered into the works of media nor tried to influence it. I do not
have any doubt on media’s transparency. However, besides CM, I am a common man
and I have every right to defend myself by dragging those to court who try to
sully my image by leveling baseless charges,” he said.
Senior Congress
legislator Nandkumar Patel interrupted the CM at several junctures during his
entire speech. When the CM was speaking on FDI in retail, Patel and his fellow
party member Dharmjeet Singh had long verbal spat with Parliamentary Affairs
Minister Brijmohan Agrawal.
Earlier, the leader of
opposition Ravindra Choubey in his speech flayed the government for selling
water, jungles and lands of the state to the industrialists. He said besides
naxalism, murder, rape and abduction cases were high in the state. The
government’s apathy has led to human trafficking of tribal girls while the
children of impoverished section are begging in places like Bangalore, he said.
