When BJP MLA and Chairman of Chhattisgarh Beverage Corporation Devji Bhai Patel stood to defend the government on the second day of the winter session of the state Assembly on Friday, he was booed by the opposition members and obstructed several times. Patel was seen urging Congress members to allow him to complete his speech pointing that they too would have their turn.
The Congress legislators said Patel, who was once a mirror of the government, suddenly softened his tone after being rewarded the post of chairman in Beverage Corporation. When they jeered him for holding Centre responsible for cement price hike after himself expressing concern over it in the past, Patel said the state government had no control over the rate fluctuations but instead it was the Centre which takes the call.
Interrupting Patel, the Congress legislator Dharmjeet Singh asked that if the BJP while being in opposition could term Rs five hike in cement prices as Jogi tax then should the Rs 95 hike be termed as Raman tax.
