On 3rd day of CMS VATAVARAN’s environment and wildlife film fest

Several important issues including requisites and problem areas of filmmaking were raised on the third day of the ongoing sixth CMS VATAVARAN international film festival on Thursday.
The day started with the special session by Dennis Aig, Montana State University, USA. In his session titled as “The Fourth Paradigm: Documenting the new scientific method” he emphasised on re-looking at the nature from a scientific point of view. According to him vast information is available to humans but its utility depends on how its use and this is where e-science is important.
David Mac Donald, Head of youTube Partner Operations, ASIA PACIFIC, in his hour- long session discussed how new media is being used to generate content, upload movies, and also copyright issues.
Bhupesh Kumar, Vice president –Aon Global Insurance Brokers Pvt Ltd in his Master Class session discussed why insuring film is important.
In the panel discussion “Filmmaking in South Asia: Opportunities and Challenges” issues like exploring funding opportunities and co-production avenues was emphasised. The Panelists were Nalaka Gunawardene, Evert Van Den Bos, Ashish Chandola and Praveen Singh. Evert also explained that European production houses were now focussing on Asia for developing new stories and content.
Several prominent Indian and International film were screened on Thursday. These include Project Tiger-Ensuring survival, War story, Back to the Roots, Earth Witness: Reflections on the Times and the Themes, Half-A-View etc. The filmmakers present on the third day were Akanksha Joshi, Naresh Bedi, Ishani K Dutta, Senani Hegde and others.
