YC asks govt to remove VAT on petro products

Raipur, December 28, 2011
The Youth Congress (YC) on Wednesday demanded from the state government to remove value added tax (VAT) imposed on petro products. The YC members led by their Raipur Lok Sabha president Vinod Tiwari also took out a cycle rally from Congress Bhawan to Collectorate in favour of their demand and submitted a memorandum to Collector on the name of Chief Minister.
Tiwari said considering high petrol prices the Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan and West Bengal governments had removed VAT petro products to relief to the people.
“The Chhattisgarh government too should follow the suit if it really wants to give financial relaxation to its people. The government is imposing whopping 24 percent VAT on the petro products. It should remove this tax immediately to cut down petrol prices in the state,” Tiwari suggested.
He said the government should not hesitate in removing VAT on petrol and diesel when it had earlier taken firm decision to remove nine percent VAT imposed on air fuel.
The cycle rally was participated by Ashish Dubey, Indrajeet Singh, Sushil Agrawal, Ramesh Yadav, Sameer Chouhan, Mohammad Riaz, Chandan, Bittu Sharma, Sayed Umed, Pratap, Bijju, etc.
