BJP spends 32k cr against Cong’s 5k cr to run govt: Lakhma

Raipur, December 16, 2011

Congress legislator Kawasi Lakhma says that BJP spends whopping Rs 32000 crore annually to run the government, but still anarchy prevails in the state while Congress was spending merely Rs 5000 crore annually, however it gave good governance. Lakhma was speaking on the second day of the winter session of the state Assembly on Friday during the discussion on no confidence motion of the opposition.
He said the ruling BJP was the party of liars as none of the claims it made regarding Bastar’s development was true.
“The government boasts to provide food to poor at the rate of Rs five but there is no dal-bhat centre in Bastar. The panchayti raj system in the state has been completely collapsed during the eight years of BJP regime. More than one lakh people from Bastar have migrated to the other states in search of subsistence. The government is being steered by bureaucrats. This government should step down,” he said.
He further said that the government had not even expanded basic facilities in the remote Bastar villages. “The people in several villages are still not getting potable water. The state gets huge fund under Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme but electricity has not reached in many parts of Bastar. During rainy season, many areas recorded scarce rains and consequently the farmers could not grow anticipated crops. Nonetheless, the government has not declared these places as drought-hit,” Lakhma said.
“The condition of the roads built under PMGSY is pathetic in interior Bastar. But the Panchayat Minister does not have time to visit such places. Ironically, the government spends huge money to construct flyovers in urban areas including capital city but do not take interest in improving road network in tribal belts. Even the works done under MNREGA are non-existent in Bastar,” he said.
Lakhma claimed that the government bled funds released for Bastar Development Authority to develop Rajnandgaon. On government’s new proposed reservation policy for tribals, Lakhma said it was merely a political gimmick.
