Cong objects Health Min’s remarks on Balod incident

Raipur, December 02, 2011

Launching tirade against Health Minister Amar Agrawal for his recent controversial statement on Balod eye camp incident, the Congress on Friday said that the minister should learn to behave responsibly and refrain from giving stinging remarks against the eye victims.
The party’s chief spokesperson Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said Agrawal, instead of taking stock of the situation at Balod quickly after more than 50 patients lost their eyesight and three died post cataract operations in the eye camp, rather preferred to make offensive remarks against the eye victims.
“The minister has never been serious towards the incident. After trying to save the guilty doctors and adjutant staff and ridiculing eye victims, now he defends his decision to resist visiting Balod by saying that his sheer presence could not turn the fortunes of the eye victims. This indicates that the minister is apathetic towards the victims,” Trivedi said.
He further slammed the minister for stating that the patients lost their eyesight due to infected operation theatre. “Even in this scenario, the minister cannot shirk his responsibility,” Trivedi added.
He said the Congress promptly announced Rs 50000 compensation for the eye victims. “We did it before the government came into action. In fact, the government only came into action when the Congress sought Governor’s intervention into the entire matter,” he said.
