CG Govt buys illegally collected sal seeds paying Rs 8 cr: Bissa

Raipur, December 17, 2011

The state government has purchased illegally collected sal seeds amounting 83570.92 quintal by paying Rs eight crores. The allegation against the government was leveled by PCC spokesperson Rajesh Bissa who claimed to have obtained evidence in this connection.
“According to letter number 3798 issued by Chhattisgarh Minor Forest Produce Cooperative Federation Limited on March 13, 2009, it has been categorically stated that there should be one collection centre in each village. The letter further said that if the multiple centres would be opened in any village and provided the buyers refuse to take sal seeds, then the entire loss would be compensated by the particular unit’s MD, DFO and deputy DFO. Still multiple centres were opened in various villages,” he said.
Bissa claimed that illegal collection of sal seeds was done in 87 centres which were missing from federation’s approved list. “These centres were opened in - South Sarguja Ambikapur - 12, Upper Ghat Jashpur - 22, Lower Ghat Jashpur – 31 and Raigarh – 22,” he said.
“The highest amount of sal seeds was collected in Lower Ghat Jashpur, i.e. 34573.45 quintal followed by South Sarguja Ambikapur – 26840.74 quintal, Upper Ghat Jashpur – 17319.45 quintal and Raigarh – 4837.28 quintal,” he added.
Bissa further alleged that the sal seeds collected illegally from other states too were accrued to the government stock. “This cannot happen without protection of the top government officials” he said.
He also pointed that host of new recruitment letters of collection centre clerks were also issued after conclusion of collection period.
