Senior Congress leader and Pandaria
legislator Mohammad Akbar has alleged that the Videocon group had acquired
about 73.97 acre tribal land on the name of MNREGA labourer for its proposed
power plant in Janjgir-Champa district. “The companies like Videocon are
engaged in such practices because the government has given them asylum,”
alleged Akbar while interacting with the media persons at Congress Bhawan on
Wednesday.
He said the large tract of land, i.e. 73.97 acre was
purchased in villages Goud and Gadapali under Janjgir tehsil by Videocon on the
name of one Vilam Singh Gond at the rate of Rs 3.36 crore. “The company did not
purchase the entire land in one go. Instead, it purchased it in parts through
45 registries on different dates,” Akbar said.
He informed that Gond was a resident of Kshirpani gram
panchayat under Pandaria development block (Kabeerdham district). “He is
actually a MNREGA labourer and his daily wage is Rs 122. His job card number is
– CH-02-004-023-021/214. The company misused the name of this poor labourer to
deceive the tribal people and save huge amount of its money,” Akbar said.
“The legal procedure to buy a tribal land is to first
obtain Collector’s permission. However, the Collector puts condition before the
tribal person interested in selling his land to purchase another land elsewhere
so that he many not become landless. Besides, the particular company is
supposed to give higher compensation to the tribal person for buying his land
and assurance of job as well. But Videocon not only saved large sum but also averted
compulsion to give jobs to the tribal people,” Akbar added.
He pointed that Gond was missing after the land deal.
He urged the government to find Gond terming him key person who could disclose
many more facts about land dealings of Videocon in Chhattisgarh. He also
demanded CBI probe into the entire matter.
