Displaced Telibandha residents gherao RMC Commissioner

Raipur, December 27, 2011

The displaced Telibandha residents led by Raipur North legislator Kuldeep Singh Juneja and Mother Teresa ward corporator Rekha Ramteke on Tuesday gheraoed RMC Commissioner for not providing them basic facilities in the makeshift rehabilitated place as promised.
Notably, the municipal had shifted several Telibandha residents to Boriyakala temporarily some nine months before and had assured that they would get all the basic facilities including water, electricity, transportation, etc.
“The municipal could not fulfill any of its promises done to the displaced residents. It had first arranged a city bus for these residents so that they could have frequent link from Boriyakala to downtown Raipur. But it stopped plying the city bus in just two months. On December 26, the power company disconnected electricity connection of the locality where these residents are dwelling. It happened because the RMC did not pay power bill of the particular place timely,” said Juneja.
“The residents are also facing acute water crisis as they get water supply through power pumps which could not be operated in the absence of electricity,” he added.
Juneja said the RMC Commissioner had given assurance to the residents to restart all the basic facilities in their makeshift area in next 48 hours.
