First phase of NSUI polls held, results of 11 districts announced, Jogi camp wins in eight districts
State president to be announced after second phase of polls at Bilaspur on Dec 7

Pradeep Sahu from Jogi camp on Monday won the NSUI’s Raipur district president elections by defeating his rival from the organisation Bhavesh Shukla. Besides Sahu, the Jogi camp won eight out of 11 district president posts during the first phase of NSUI polls which held at Shaheed Smarak Bhawan on Monday. The remaining three districts went to the candidates backed by the organisation.
The polling started at 10 am and ended 4 pm. Pradeep Sahu, who was said to win the Raipur district president post easily, got 209 votes and defeated Bhavesh Shukla by 107 votes. The third candidate in the fray - Arif Ansari also belonged to and he received 97 votes.
The organisation-backed candidates Rahul Singh, Zaheen Khan and Saddam Khan managed to win Durg, Rajnandgaon and Jagdalpur districts respectively. While, besides Raipur district, the Jogi’s supporter Anand Singh won from Kawardha, Jhony Chandrakar - Mahasamund, Prakash Pawar – Dhamtari, Virendra Netam – Kanker, Laxman Karbe – Bijapur, Haleem Khan – Dantewada and Amit Bhadra – Narayanpur.
The polling for state president and national delegates was also done on Monday. However, the name of state president would be announced after the second phase of NSUI polls at Bilaspur on December 7. On the same date, the polling for district presidents of six districts - Bilaspur, Koria, Sarguja, Korba, Raigarh and Janjgir-Champa would also be done. The elections for Jashpur district president would not be conducted as the organisation could not make requisite members in this region.
The Jogi camp says that its candidate for state president Subodh Haritwal would easy defeat rival Devendra Yadav fielded by the organisation.
However, controversies continue to pursue Haritwal as after facing charge of spending excessive money on voters to win the polls, he is now being alleged of submitting fake admission certificate to the NSUI’s Central Election Committee.
