The Centre has approved Rs 149.86 lakh for six districts of the state under its Rural Backyard Poultry Development Programme (RBPDP). Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Department Charandas Mahant had recently asked the state government to send proposal in this regard. The scheme will be implemented in the current financial year.
The scheme will benefit 6886 beneficiaries of 342 villages located in Koria, Raigarh, Rajnandgaon, Dantewada, Durg and Mahasamund districts. Mahant informed that the Centre would provide hundred percent finance to the beneficiaries.
Under the scheme, centre would provide four-week old chicks to the beneficiaries in three phases – 20 chicks in first phase, 15 in second and ten in third. The beneficiaries would also get training regarding operation and maintenance of backyard poultry farms.
Mahant has also asked the state government to send similar proposal for newly constituted districts so that small farmers could have additional income source.
