The state government’s Sanjeevni Kosh Yojana (SKY) has provided financial assistance to 217 patients suffering from heart disease, cancer and other grave diseases in the current financial year from April 1 to July 31, 2011. These patients have received Rs 23.81 lakh financial aid through SKY.
The officials of the Health and Family Welfare Department informed that among the 217 patients, 202 were suffering from heart-related problems while the remaining 15 were suffering cancer and grave diseases.
Notably, the scheme was started in 2001 with an aim to provide monetary help to the financially weaker section of the society which could not incur the expensive medical treatment procedures.
Since commencement of the scheme, the state has benefited about 3886 patients. About 2929 heart patients, 534 cancer patients, 67 kidney patients and 356 others suffering from grave diseases got new lease of life through this scheme. The officials informed that the government had spent about Rs 27.94 crore on the treatment of the patients under the scheme in the past eleven years.
