Munat inspects city’s waterlogged areas

Raipur, September 08, 2011

After two days of incessant rains, the Urban Administration Minister Rajesh Munat inspected the waterlogged areas of the city and directed Raipur Collector Dr Rohit Yadav and RMC Commissioner RS Toppo to ensure proper drainage of water and provision of adequate relief to the affected people. He further asked the officials to make a work-plan to deal flood-like situation, especially in the low lying areas in the coming days.
The minister first visited Dharamnagar, the area where the normal life virtually came to halt due to knee-deep water all over in past two days. He found that the water had not receded in Dharamnagar in spite of some respite from the rain-fury on Thursday.
The municipal officials informed him that they were taking out water from the area through suction pumps but the process would take time. Comprehending that waterlogging in Dharamnagar becomes common scene during every fresh spell of rains, the minister asked the officials to construct a wide drain in the area. He further instructed the officials to remove encroachments over the nullah in the periphery of the region abutting Ring Road No 1.
Munat also inspected other low lying areas around Ring Road No 1 and near Rajatalab.  He asked the district and municipal administrations to ensure proper drainage in all the low lying areas where waterlogging conditions occur during rains and afterwards.
