BALCO free to transport bauxite outside state: CM

The Bharat Aluminum Company (BALCO) is free to the transport bauxite to any of its units outside Chhattisgarh. The information was given by Chief Minister Raman Singh in a written reply to a question of Congress MLA Mohammad Akbar during ongoing session of Vidhan Sabha on Thursday.
He said according to mining lease deed with BALCO, the company was not bound to utilise bauxite in Chhattisgarh and had full liberty to transport it in any of the states where it had manufacturing units.
The CM clarified that bauxite mining lease to BALCO in Koria district had not been approved while the company had not transported bauxite from Kabirdham district from fiscal 2001-02 to 2003-04 in spite of obtaining mining lease. However, in the subsequent financial years, the company had transported mineral, he added.
In 2004-05 BALCO transported 2685 MT bauxite, in 2005-06 – 62290 MT, 2006-07 – 3.30 lakh MT, 2007-08 – 4.46 lakh MT, 2008-09 – 2.60 lakh MT, 2009-10 – 3 lakh MT, 2010-11 – 5.06 lakh MT and 2011-12 (till August 15) – 2.26 lakh MT.
