The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Netra Sahayak Adhikari Sangh (CPNSAS) has demanded from Health Department to give promotion and other facilities to the Ophthalmic Assistant Officers (OAOs). In this connection, the association submitted a memorandum to the Director Health and Family Welfare Department with its 11-point demand recently.
The CPNSAS informed that the OAOs were rendering their service for the past 25-30 years and were a key link in state government as well as Centre’s various programmes related to eye patients. “However, the department has neither made a provision of promotion for the OAOs nor it has given them any other basic facilities,” said SS Soni, the association’s state convenor.
The prominent demands of the association are – give promotion to the OAOs in four cadres – Optometrist, Senior Assistant Ophthalmic Officer, Senior Assistant District Ophthalmic Officer and District Ophthalmic Officer, announce OAOs with salary band Rs 6500-10500 as gazetted officer and the OAOs should get pay-scale equivalent to their peers working in Central government departments.
The association further demanded to change the existing post name of OAO and make it Assistant Ophthalmic Officer or Ophthalmic Officer like other states.
