The Agriculture Minister Chandrashekhar Sahu has informed that the government had purchased pesticides worth Rs 11.62 crore in 2010-11. Two pesticides were found sub-standard and hence the payment to the Indore-based supplier had been stopped, he said. The minister’s information came while he was answering to a query of Congress legislator Nandkumar Patel during the monsoon session of state Assembly on Thursday. Sahu said about 793735 kilo litres of pesticides were purchased from 16 companies through Beej Vikas Nigam (BVN). About Rs 7.91 crore has been paid to these companies after laboratory test of purchased materials, he said. He also informed the House that the BVN did not purchase pesticide in 2009-10.
