The state government will launch new scheme for pregnant women and infants – Janani-Shishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK) from August 15, 2011. Under the scheme, the government will provide free of cost medical facility (includes all types of pathological tests, treatment and medicines) to the pregnant women and infant (up to 30 days old). The Health and Family Welfare Minister Amar Agrawal informed that the objective of launching the scheme is to check maternal and infant mortality rates.
The officials of the department informed that the scheme would benefit pregnant women and infants of both urban and rural pockets of the state. If the doctors would recommend for surgery during delivery of the pregnant women then the government would incur the entire cost of operation, the officials said.
The government will also arrange free of cost meals for the mothers after delivery in hospital (in case of normal delivery – three days, operation - seven days). If required, free of cost blood would also be arranged for pregnant women during delivery in the particular health centre.
The officials said blood donation would be encouraged so that the heath centres could have sufficient stock of blood to provide the pregnant women during emergency. The blood group and others tests of the donor would be done free of cost, said the officials.
The government will further arrange free conveyance to the pregnant women during delivery through Sanjeevni Express 108 and Mahtari Express. Similarly, in complicated pregnancy cases, the pregnant women would get free transportation from the local health centre to community health centre and district hospital on recommendations of the doctors. After delivery, there will be free transportation facility for mother and child from health centre to home.
