Food dept fails to computerise APL ration cards timely




The Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department has failed to computerise APL ration cards under public distribution system (PDS) within targeted time, i.e. August 30, 2011. Expressing dissatisfaction over the lethargic attitude of the officials, the department’s Director Sonmani Bora has shot notice to those who achieved less than fifty percent of their target. Bora’s decision came while he was reviewing the progress works of the department at New Circuit House on Wednesday.
The department has also failed to distribute targeted ration cards to the eligible families under government’s Antyodaya and Annapurna schemes. He said since the government intended to distribute ration to the poorest of the poor under Antyodaya scheme, the old and destitute get ration under Annapurna, the officials should ensure cent percent achievement of targets to distribute ration cards.
Considering paddy procurement to be done in over 1850 centres in the future, he asked the officials to construct new platform in the procurement centres to stock paddy and to provide basic infrastructure like computer, printer, etc in the new centres along with recruitment of operators.
Reviewing redressal rate of public grievances during gram suraj campaign, he found that 949 applications from Sarguja, 176 from Kanker and 29 from Raipur were pending. He instructed the officials to promptly solve the public problem.
He informed that the department had received anticipated results after computerising kerosene distribution process in Raipur, Kawardha and Dhamtari districts in the first phase. However, he asked the officials to tighten the procedures to distribute kerosene for to check black marketing and illegal sale.
