Many of the private technical colleges of the state who had taken excess fees from the students during admission have returned the surplus amount. The information was given by Higher and Technical Education Minister Hemchand Yadav in the form of a written reply to a question of Congress MLA Amitesh Shukla during the ongoing monsoon session of Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday.
Yadav informed that about Rs 17.86 lakh excess fees had been returned to the students. He further informed that about 17 private technical colleges were being operated in the Raipur district. These technical institutes follow AICTE norms, he said.
The minister denied that his department had received complaints regarding donations being taken by the managements of the private technical colleges during admission.
He informed that fee structure of the private technical colleges was being fixed under the provisions of Chhattisgarh Private Professional Education Institution (Regulation of Admission & Fixation of Fee). For this, a fee committee had been constituted which hears the fee-related complaints against the college managements and recommends the government for appropriate action according to the provision.
In his reply to another question of the Congress legislator, the minister informed that there were 44 private colleges (non-technical) being operated in the Raipur district in which the regular teachers were receiving salaries according to the 6th pay-scale under UGC norms. He clarified that the department had not received any complaints regarding violation of pay-scale norms in any of the 44 private colleges.
